Luther for a fact has clashed in the studio with the queen of soul(she even confirmed it) and envogue when they opened for him on tour in the early nineties. As far as whether he was gay or not, it is not even an issue. One of the reasons it took him so long to get a record deal before 1981 was because all of the funk bands were happening and he just did not fit in before epic took a chance on him.
